What is CraftSafe®?
Kandi Corp's CraftSafe® is a complete line of embellishments for sewing, quilting, and crafting which have
extremely low lead content. Developed by Kandi Corp, CraftSafe® hotfix low lead crystals is the answer for
healthy, child-friendly crafting. All CraftSafe® hotfix low lead crystals embellishments test between
non-detectable and a maximum of 75 ppm (parts per million). The CraftSafe® line includes Crystals, Rhinestuds,
and Metal embellishments. They may be used on Clothing,
Quilts, Paper Crafting, and many other crafts.
Why worry about Lead?
Lead is a proven health hazard. If you recall the Toy recalls over the past few years, you will understand
why eliminating lead in articles that come in contact with children is so important, as well as the massive
costs to those companies who were forced to recall millions of items with high lead content.
What is the Legal Requirement?
In response to the continuing recalls of Children's products due to high lead content, the US Government
passed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). This act mandated that the US Consumer
Product Safety Commission enforce very strict limits on the allowable amount of lead in products produced
for, or used by, children under the age of 12. CPSIA officially went into effect in February, 2009,
with a limit of 600ppm. The Act reduces that limit to 300ppm in August, 2009, and further reduces the
limit to 100ppm in August, 2010. Among the provisions of the Act is that inventory on hand which
exceeds a milestone limit (eg 300 ppm) can not be sold after the milestone date. The Act further mandates severe
penalties for anyone convicted of violating the Act.
